Ministry of Sound●14/9●ISH CLUB●Style of Eye●Nils Noa

Fredag 14:e September presenterer Ish Club i samarbeid med Dunka Dunka; Ministry Of Sound & Style of Eye!

The story about Style of Eye.
Swedish DJ/producer Style of Eye (AKA Linus Eklöw) has been melding his far-reaching influences to form a unique brand of high energy club music since 2003. Although his sound has developed significantly since Right Now! first burst on to dancefloors in that year, Linus has maintained a sonic identity that continues to mark him out as one the scene's most singular players.

Linus's signature sound has much to do with the many different types of music he absorbed growing up in Stockholm, Sweden. An artist like Stevie Wonder or 19th century classical composer Edvard Grieg was equally as important as acts like Yelllo or Krafwerk. Even Linus's engagement with drum & bass producers like DJ Hype, Zinc, Photek and Roni Size would go hand-in-hand with stacks of dusty soul and jazz records. As far back as the age of 13 Linus knew he wanted to participate in music somehow. He began to experiment with production, making "weird downtempo and trip hop" and latterly spinning drum & bass records to unsuspecting classmates at school discos aged 14.

By 2003 Linus had produced his first house record. On the advice of close friend and partner-in-crime Tony Senghore he sent the track to Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon at the legendary Classic…a week later Solomon was on the other end of a phone line telling Linus that he wanted to sign the track. Right Now! was picked up and supported by DJs and media across the board, leading to a relationship with Classic that would see Linus release a further trio of 12-inches with the imprint over the coming years.

Linus's amalgamation of jackin' Chicago house and modern European electronics continued to win him many admirers during the '00s. In 2007 fellow Swede John Dahlbäck signed Linus's stomping H-Bomb to his Pickadoll label, setting in motion a run of releases that in 2008 would see the debut Style of Eye full-length, Duck, Cover And Hold, hit shelves in addition to the standout single "Girls". The album signalled a new high-water mark for Linus, adroitly weaving together a culmination of his work thus far in a thrilling mixed format across 13 tracks. 2008 was also the year that Claude VonStroke and his Dirtybird imprint formalized their interest in Linus's bumping sound with the release of The Big Kazoo EP (a first Beatport 10 entry for Linus), which was followed up the next year by The Race EP.

The endorsements also continued to come in through the remix sphere. In this regard, a precedent was set back in 2004 when Linus completed a standout version The Knife's "Heartbeats"—which was in fact his first-ever officially released remix and (understandably) remains one of his proudest achievements to date. World renowned acts such as Moby, Lily Allen, Empire Of The Sun, Miike Snow and Swedish House Mafia have also been among those to call on Linus's remixing talents in the recent past, marking him out as a producer who can take on the big guns (and win).

As plentiful as his production credits have been, we wouldn't be here now if it wasn't backed up by skills behind the decks. Linus has been a DJ of international acclaim throughout his career, leading to requests for three mixed compilations—one for OM Records, two for Ministry of Sound—and gigs at major festivals and club events throughout the world. Taking the last 12 months as a microcosm, Linus has enjoyed show stopping performances at events like Creamfields in the UK, Amnesia in Ibiza, Tomorrowland in Belgium, Peace & Love festival in Sweden, Fusion festival in Germany, Mansion in Miami and the Roseland Ballroom in New York.

"I'm always about high-energy with a need to push things forward," says Linus, a point that's easy to believe upon hearing his recent work for Sebastian Ingrosso's Refune Records. Releases like Puss Puss, We Are Boys and Sexx have all done the damage over the last couple of years. Further emphasising his continually growing international appeal, 2011 saw highly influential French imprint Sound Pellegrino release the Wet / Dry double-header, while arguably the most famous force in dance music right now, Skrillex, tapped Linus for a contribution—the aptly titled "Devastate"— to Free Treats Vol II on his OWSLA label.

Linus's excellent "Homeless" track alongside Slagsmålsklubben for A-Trak's Fool's Gold will be followed up in 2012 with his second release on the label. Then there's the small matter of Robotberget, the brand new label from the ever-impressive Miike Snow, on which Linus will be a key figure in the coming months. "'Music, not genres' is my motto," says Linus, simultaneously looking ahead and summarizing his career to date. "Whatever I feel is interesting at the moment will come out in what I do. I'd rather die trying to find that special place where time stands still then to safely repeat the same sounds over and over."

The story about Nils Noa.

Any standard DJ Biography extols the virtues of it's subject so avoiding clichés is a difficult one, especially when considering an artist like Norway's Nils Noa who has followed a similar path as many but has done so with fantastic success.

Currently the co-owner of Troll Records alongside fellow Norwegian Christian Sol as well as a DJ/Booker at Oslo's superb The Villa, Nils Noa has had a multifaceted career which has seen him develop a teenage passion of electronic music beautifully. It's likely that his few years of playing high-level football (soccer) in Norway, or his years in electronic/pop act Bermuda Triangle that has created a firm resolve and work ethic for Nils Noa but it's a certainty that resolve and work ethic, alongside passion and talent, have played a huge part in his career.

Driven by a varied and non-discrimantory vinyl addition as well as the age old fake-ID fuelled trips to the local house music mecca (in this case the legendary deep house night Skansen and it's DJ G-Ha – now a respectful colleague of Noa), Nils started his first night as soon as he was old enough. Monkey Business (an apt title for a night created by the playful Oslo resident) quickly became an internationally recognised affair as well as a local hit and Djs such as Paul Woolford, Yousef, James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli and many more passed through its doors – in most cases before they became the household names they are now.

During the Monkey Business period Nils started to win international support, even becoming the youngest artists to grace The Essential Mix turntables at the time. A steadily increasing schedule marked the end of Monkey Business but the beginning of an exciting stage that to date has seen Nils play in over 20 countries worldwide.

Balancing touring, The Villa, Troll and a burgeoning production schedule has been second nature and now Nils is an artist that can be banked on. His music is frequently winning support from a cross section of Djs and there's an feeling of more success to come.

Ministry of Sound & Pleasurekraft på Ish Oslo - 12/4

Ish Club & Dunka Dunka presenterer; Ministry of Sound & Pleasurekraft.

Torsdag 12:e April presenterer Ish Club i samarbeid med Dunka Dunka; Ministry Of Sound & Pleasurekraft!

Q: Who is Pleasurekraft?
A: Kaveh & Kalle’s baby (immaculately conceived of course)

Q: What is Pleasurekraft?
A: A simultaneously visceral and cerebral experience induced only by the seductive, deep, groove heavy, underground techno inspired music that you hear the kids listening to .. – Common side effects include: unrelenting head bobbing giving way to complete surrender to physical movement commonly referred to as ‘dancing’.

Q: Where is Pleasurekraft?
A: In your CD/tape deck/vinyl/mp3/neighborhood Club/Lounge – anywhere where organically inspired synthetic music lurks, ready to jump in your skin and make you move! However, the most concentrated “red spots” have appeared to be in 2 distinct locations – Stockholm, Sweden, and Washington D.C, USA.

Q: When is Pleasurekraft?
A: Since the dawn of man, to the future of our future of our future…..

Q: Why is Pleasurekraft?
A: Because we are hedonists and when the groove captures you – all you can do is surrender with pleasure.

Dere som ikke fikk med er Pleasurekraft på Fugazi sommeren 2011 er dette din sjans at få oppleve magin. Det blir masse techno go tech house hele natten.
